A Letter to 'Asia'

Dear Asia,

I am so sorry that you got sick. I will miss you so much and so will all the other horses. I am sure Ziggy will miss you the most. I have your picture on my dresser in my bedroom and I look at it all the time. I am so glad that I was able to know you and that you gave me and my little sister a ride on you when we were visiting my grandma. I am sure that your mommy will miss you and so will Ziggy and all the other horses. You were very special. My mommy said that you got really sick and just could not make yourself better and the doctors could not help you. I wish I was there because I would of patted you head and give you a kiss so that you were not scared. My mommy said that you are in a nice field in heaven and you can run and play all the time and the weather is nice and you have a lot of fresh grass and hay. I know you will be looking down on us and will be waiting for us when we go up to heaven. Can I have a ride on your back again when I see you in heaven? I promise I will give you a carrot. You will always be in my heart and mind and I will never forget you. I am happy that you are in a good place and you will never be sick again. When I come to see my grandma I promise I will see where you are buried and I will stop by and say hi and I will leave you a carrot in case you are hungry. I love you Asia and I will miss you.

Love,

Lorissa

(note: Lorissa is 6 - soon to be 7 and has been taking riding lessons at a farm near her home in Virginia. I copied this just as the email was written and sent to her grandmother. Aja colicked and was euthanized on December 18, 2002; she came to me (Marrilyn) from Bay Meadow Arabians, where I had the chance to learn to ride and I fell head-over-heels in love with Aja. She was just enough of a challenge for my personality. Thank you, Aja, for your unconditional love. You were always there to help me through the tough times. You always listened and never were judgmental. You always kept me safe when I wasn't paying attention. )
